The result is <strong>gigantic icebergs<\/strong>, which can be several hundred meters wide and up to 100 meter high above sea level. At the entrance to ice fiord these giants are stranded and we have a unique opportunity to sail among them. Our first stop is at Thingvellir National Park, which is one of Iceland&rsquo;s most significant historical sites where Iceland&rsquo;s first parliament was founded in the year 930 AD. From Thingvellir we head along mountain tracks toward the world-renowned geothermal area around Geysir hot spring, the one spouting hot spring on earth after which all other spouting hot springs are named. From there we continue on to Gullfoss (the Golden waterfall) where your proximity to its edge is so close you can feel the spray of the glacial water on your face. Conditions permitting, how about a walk around it \u2013 yes, you can go behind Seljalandsfoss. Soon after the road starts disintegrating and nature takes over your senses. Bordering \u00de\u00f3rsm\u00f6rk nature reserve to the south is the famously ash-spewing volcano Eyjafjallaj\u00f6kull, topped by glacial ice and snow. Amongst numerous places of\u00a0interest\u00a0on our route is the G\u00edgj\u00f6kull glacier lagoon which is actually off the maps now. In 2010 it disappeared under volcanic rubble in a catastrophic flood of glacial melt and debris, caused by the Eyjafjallaj\u00f6kull eruption.
