We\u2019ll spend some time walking through this area to experience the dramatic mid-Atlantic ridge before heading eastbound on the mountain road to Lyngdalshei\u00f0i. Here we\u2019ll find views of the lava fields on the hills above Laugarvatn. As we head to\u00a0Haukadalur, you\u2019ll be able to see the famous Geysir hot spring and Strokkur erupting every 5 to 7 minutes and spewing boiling water into the air at heights of 25 to 30 meters. We\u2019ll spend some time here observing the eruptions and exploring the hot springs before heading up to the magnificent Gullfoss waterfall cascading into the white Hvita River along with glacial water. We\u2019ll be approaching Iceland\u2019s second largest glacier, Langj\u00f6kull, and <\/em>optional snowmobile ride, are dependent on weather conditions and time of year (must be pre-booked). <\/em><\/p>\n In the afternoon, we make our way through the agricultural headland of southwest Iceland and through small settlements on the way home to Reykjavik.<\/em><\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n Day 4:<\/u><\/p>\n Breakfast at hotel.<\/p>\n Hotel pick-up this morning for your full day super jeep tour to South Iceland, Thorsmork and Eyjafjallajokull Volcano<\/strong> areas, 8-9 hrs<\/p>\n After\u00a0pick up\u00a0at your hotel this morning in Reykjavik, we travel south-east through the mountain pass and Hellishei\u00f0i plateau towards the town of Hveragerdi. A geothermal hot bed, the surrounding hills are full of active steam vents and the town is known for its greenhouses which are heated by hot water from volcanic hot springs. We soon find ourselves further east in the town Selfoss, which was settled by \u00de\u00f3rir \u00c1sason.\u00a0 Ing\u00f3lfur Arnarson, Iceland\u2019s first known settler, was also said to have spent the winter of 873-74 \u201cunder mt.Ing\u00f3lfsfell west of the \u00d6lfus\u00e1 river.\u201d\u00a0 Our next way-point is the charming town of Hella, situated on the banks of one of the best salmon rivers of the country.\u00a0 We pass through the Saga Centre dedicated to Nj\u00e1l\u2019s saga, you\u2019ll soon learn that South Iceland is rich in saga history.\u00a0 Here we turn off the ring road towards Thorsmork You\u2019ll get a brief glimpse of the impressive Seljalandsfoss waterfall, which we explore on our way back. It is possible to walk up into the recess behind the thundering torrent of water. Named after the Norse god Thor, Thorsm\u00f6rk richly deserves its reputation as the \u201cValley of the Gods\u201d and areas near and dear to Icelanders. Soon the road ends and the highland tracks begin, our super-jeeps make easy work of fording flowing rivers that would be impossible in a normal vehicle. We will stop at the base of Gigj\u00f6kull glacier before we begin a hike along trails and into river canyons in this idyllic park setting. We\u2019ll take time to explore the magnificent canyon of Stakkaholtsgj\u00e1.\u00a0 Thorsmork is the place\u00a0where you can best appreciate the incredible mix of glaciers, rocks and wooded areas (the latter a bit of a rarity in Iceland).
