An underground car park, the famous 28 tram (provides a scenic and romantic way of getting to know Lisbon) plus the metro facing the hotel door, means guests are also very well served transport wise.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nAs Janelas Verdes****<\/strong>\r\n\r\nHotel As Janelas Verdes (translated as the Green Windows) is a small 18th century palace located in the typically pretty street of the same name in Lisbon. It is also next to the Museum of Ancient Art \u2013 a world-class museum and, along with the Gulbenkian, Lisbon\u2019s finest. The Lisbon hotel certainly has a strong cultural and literary tradition. E\u00e7a de Queiros, the great 19th century Portuguese novelist is said to have lived there and based the magical home \u201cO Ramalhete\u201d, in his novel \"the Maias\", on As Janelas Verdes. The old wing of Hotel As Janelas Verdes, with its small objets d\u2019art, paintings and mementoes takes us back to a period when life seemed to be less rushed and more refined. The new wing, though it has a more contemporary decoration and feel, still blends in flawlessly with the existing atmosphere. All 17 rooms have a light airy feel, are very tastefully decorated and provide for some delightful personal touches. The do not disturb sign, for example, is simply a cushion with the word \u201cschhh\u2026\u201d. The upper terrace on the new wing further provides some great views of Lisbon and the river Tagus, whilst the small garden of Hotel As Janelas Verdes is an excellent place to breath in the calm of old Lisbon and enjoy breakfast\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nPestana Porto****<\/strong>\r\n\r\nThe Pestana Porto could not be better located. It is situated in the Pra\u00e7a da Ribeira, in the very heart of the historical Porto and constructed on part of the medieval city wall and forms part of a block of town houses, some of which go back to the 16th and 17th centuries. In fact the cultural importance of the buildings can be evidenced by the fact they have been classified as part of a UNESCO World Heritage site. The hotel also overlooks the Port wine cellars and is close to the Pal\u00e1cio da Bolsa building. Not surprisingly, the atmosphere this hotel imbues is rather special and unique.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nVivenda Miranda****<\/strong>\r\n\r\nOriginally built by descendants of an old English aristocratic family, romantic hotel Vivenda Miranda has been carefully extended over the last few years within a subtropical garden, to provide an extremely sumptuous setting. Architecture is in keeping with the Algarve tradition \u2013 whitewashed walls, red tiled roof and the distinctive chimneys. Given the gently terraced gardens with the two differently structured buildings, guests can enjoy views of the Atlantic Ocean from the rooms or suites, all of which are decorated in their own distinctive manner. The well-kept garden offers relaxing spots with great vistas of the coast. This is also an excellent place for golfers. Guests can benefit from packages and courses, including the best green-fee reductions to some of the finest courses in Europe. There is also the in-house golf pro to help anyone from beginner to the handicapped player. Other sports, however, are available within the vicinity and include tennis, biking, sailing and riding nearby. This is certainly a place to combine the relaxing with the active. It is also nearby to the Lagos, one of the few remaining towns in the Algarve that has retained its Portuguese identity.
