Pick up at Strasbourg airport and transfer south to Colmar

Described by Frommer’s as « one of the most attractive towns in Alsace, Colmar is situated in east-central France, in a border region that was once disputed between France and Germany. The city is renowned for its well preserved old town, its numerous architectural landmarks and its museums, among which is the Unterlinden Museum with the Issenheim Altarpiece.

Today, follow your guide on a 2 hour walking tour to discover all the main highlights this beautiful city has to offer. Your tour will certainly lead you to the « Maison des Tetes », an outstanding German Renaissance building and to the Little Venice neighborhood where gorgeous half-timbered houses are lined along the Lauch River. Château D’Isenbourg is built on 12th and 14th-Century foundations and is located in the heart of the vineyards on the Alsace wine route. Day 2 : Southern Wine Road

Discover of the Southern Wine Road – with the villages – Pfaffenheim, Gebuerschwihr, Eguisheim, Turckheim

Pfaffenheim:  the village which dates back to Roman times, even Celtic, was named « Papanheim » the presence of large areas belonging to convents and monasteries. Current research tends to prove a prior presence on the site, the « priests » may be « Druids ».

Gebuerschwihr:  The village Gueberschwihr is cited as such in the 8th century. Many nobles established their residence in the 11th century. Sign of the rich soil, many religious orders and houses and possessions were to tithe into wine. This wealth attracted the envy and the village was looted several times during wars. Today Gueberschwihr, medieval picturesque village is a characteristic of the Route des Vins  d’Alsace. Nestled into the hillsides in lush greenery, this charming village that has retained its original charm and authenticity invites you to discover its rich heritage: half-timbered houses, carved doorways, remarkable architecture, and flowering vines delight the eyes of the curious Overlooking the village square, the steeple of the 12th century novel, the jewel of the village, is an essential step for Route Romane d’Alsace.

Surrounded by vineyards, nestling in a fold of green hills, Eguisheim is a medieval village whose narrow, concentric streets highlight the architectural merits of its half-timbered houses, lovingly decorated with flowers. Since 1985, this passion has been rewarded with the « 4-flower » rating of France’s National Floral Award.  Discover in this unique village: historic fountains, tithe manors, a yellow sandstone church with a 13th century « Opening Virgin » statue. Stroll along its narrow streets and admire the broad spectrum of its coloured houses, where ancient inscriptions can be deciphered on the stone lintels. Fall in love with the personality of this most typical Alsace villages.

Turckheim:  Turckheim is an elongated village, whose walls stretch below the mighty slope above the village, known as Grand Cru Brand.  During a visit one becomes surprised to find that Turckheim is so quiet, as long as one stays away from the busy touristic area close to the square at the southern gate which serves as the city centre. While Turckheim is one of the most significant wine villages in Alsace, there are surprisingly few producers, actually only three, inside the city walls. A few more have their premises outside the historic city centre, but the main reason is that the co-operative is very dominant. New producers occur sometimes, but after a few years, they return to the security of the co-operative.

Day 3 :  Obernai for 2 nights

Visit of Kayserberg:  Kaysersberg is a small town.  It is generally considered to be one of the most impressive of the Alsace towns, particularly in the town’s medieval centre.  The town is in a very picturesque setting, in a valley surrounded by vineyards and with forested hills rising above the town.

Riqhewihr &  Ribeauvillé:  depart for the Ribeauvillé/Riquewihr wine producing area that is surrounded by 5 Grand Crus appellations: Geisberg, Kirchberg, Osterberg, Schoenenbourg and Sporen. If Riesling is without a doubt the king of grapes in this area, Pinot Gris, Muscat and Gewürztraminer are also known to produce excellent wines on the neighboring soils. Here famous wine growers include the Trimbach family that have been making wine since 1626 or the Hugel family who only began their activity in 1639! Not only will you be amazed by the beauty of these two Medieval towns, it is also here that you will experience our 2 afternoon tasting sessions in some of the most highly selected wineries so as to complete your Alsace wine tasting experience.

Strasbourg:  2 hour guided walking tour of Strasbourg. Follow your private English speaking guide as you walk around the old pedestrian areas around the Cathedral and in the Petite France neighborhood. During the tour, your guide will certainly point out the Maison Kammerzell, Gutenberg square, St.-Thomas church, the former tanners’ houses, the Covered Bridges, the Vauban dam, the former customs-house, the former town-butchery, the Palais Rohan and so much more. One of the highlights of the walking tour will certainly be the visit of the Cathedral.

Day 4: Northern Wine Road

Discovery of the Northern Alsace Wine Road – the villages  Obernai

Barr:  is a wine road village in Alsace that attracts fewer tourists. 

Andlau:  has been making wine since Roman times when retired Roman legionaires started planting vineyards here. If you love old medieval houses, you’ll see lots of them here in Andlau Molsheim:  sbest known as the home of Bugatti. You can still tour the Bugatti Foundation in Molsheim or you can go just next door to Dorlisheim where their new Bugatti car factory is now located. But Molsheim is still a wine road village and its medieval city walls are still standing…right next to vineyards even!

Day 5: Departure

Transfer to Strasbourg train station
